Episode I: The Mage

Episode II: The Second Star

Episode I: The Mage

The Warrior secured his sword to his back, and left his village. He traveled for a day before arriving at his destination. The Castle of the Mage was heavily guarded, but posed no problem.

Returning to the forest, the Warrior searched for a pole. Upon finding a suitable tree, he unsheathed his sword, and with one powerful blow the Warrior cut it down.

After preparing the pole, the Warrior readied himself. Lining up his jump, he lifted the pole and ran. Planting the pole a fair distance away the Warrior jumped, the pole bent, and he flew through the air. The warrior flipped, while unsheathing the sword, and landed on the Castle wall.

All were unaware as the Warrior approached. The soldiers told stories as the Warrior crept through the shadows. A fit of drunken laughter erupted from the soldiers as the Warrior stood at the sentry tower door. As the door came crashing down the laughter stopped, and the clashing of swords began.

The Warrior left the room of blood, and proceeded down to the Castle.

In crossing the courtyard, the Warrior met the main guard, all fifteen of them. They stood in their rows, as the crouching Warrior stared them down. The Captain ordered the first two men to attack the Warrior. The two charged, as the Warrior stayed crouched. The first guard raised his sword above his head to strike, and at that moment the Warrior pounced, and the guard folded in half. The second guard attacked in a fit of rage. The Warrior calmly blocked every blow. The tired guard hesitated for a moment, and lost his head.

When the body of the second guard hit the ground, the other thirteen guards attacked. The Warrior calmly ran the first few though. Others he simply severed their arms. As only a few were left, he disarmed them, and quickly removed their heads. The last, the Warrior killed him with the guard's sword.

The dumbfounded Captain, upon seeing the blazing eyes of the Warrior, turned and ran toward the Castle. The Captain ordered the closing of the drawbridge. As the drawbridge began to rise, the Warrior ran, jumped, and slid down the closing drawbridge.

Two arrows flew by his head; a third the Warrior hacked out of the air with his sword. The Warrior bolted up the stairs to the archers. As he was about to come around the corner, the arrows began to fly. In search of a shield, the Warrior grabbed a fleeing servant, and jumped in front of the archers. Once he was close enough, the Warrior threw the body of the servant on top of the first row, and attacked the second.

Pressing on, the Warrior continued to the Mage's Chamber. He arrived at a set of very large wooden doors, backed up a little, and kicked them open. The Mage was sitting on his throne, with the Captain standing beside him. Pointing at the Warrior, the Mage ordered the Captain to attack.

The Captain reluctantly drew his sword, and approached the Warrior. The Warrior readied his weapon, and walked toward the Captain. They met in the middle of the chamber, gave each other a look of respect, and attacked. Swords clashed and blood flew. The Captain made one last strong blow, blocked by the Warrior, who pushed him off and counter attacked. In an attempt to block the blow, the Captain held his sword firmly, but it shattered from the Warrior's blow, and the Captain, cleaved in half, fell to the floor.

The Warrior stepped over the carcass, and pointed his sword at the Mage. The Mage stood, raised his hands above his head, whispered an incantation, and clapped his hands. Instantly, the Warrior and Mage were teleported to the top of the Castle.

Turning sideways toward the Warrior, the Mage raised his arm and pointed his palm at the Warrior. Aware of the Mage's spell casting, the Warrior charged to disrupt it, but was too late. The Mage had already finished the spell by waving his other hand, and huge ripples of energy flew forth from the open palm, and threw the Warrior to edge of the Castle.

As the Mage walked toward the Warrior, the Warrior, wincing in pain, began to get up. When the Mage was close enough, the Warrior swung his sword, but with a wave of his hand the Mage stopped the sword in mid air. While the Warrior was trying to free his sword from the spell, the Mage spoke a few words and then his fist began to glow deep blue. He then delivered a terrible upper cut to the Warrior, sending him over the edge of the Castle. Then the Mage jumped down and slowly floated down.

Before the Mage lightly landed, the Warrior staggered to his feet and readied his sword. When the Mage landed, he began chanting and waving his arms in the air. The Warrior quickly charged and knocked the Mage over, disrupting his spell. With the Mage under him, the Warrior raised his sword to run him through, but the Mage said a magical word, and was teleported a few yards away. He then spoke an incantation, and then bent down and touched his hand to the ground. Suddenly the ground began to rumble, and a dragon of stone erupted from the ground.

The stone dragon approached the Warrior, and Suddenly snapped at him with his large mouth. The Warrior quickly stepped back and avoided the attack, and then dove under the beast, and crawled toward the Mage. On the other side, the Warrior quickly got up and started to run toward the Mage, but the dragon's tails stopped him short. The Warrior recovered from the blow, and quickly tackled the Mage. The mage attempted to cast a spell, but the dragon unleashed its breath of green fire. The Warrior rolled to safety, but the Mage was caught in the blast. As the Mage's body burned to dust, the dragon crumbled into a large pile of stone.

After all of the smoke and dust cleared, the Warrior got up and walked to the pile of dust that was the Mage. He sifted through it and found a small green stone, which he placed in a pouch. After taking one last look the Warrior turned and left the castle.

Episode II: The Second Star

With the small green stone in hand, the Warrior returned to his village after the great ordeal. He passed by the many huts to the middle of the village, where the Warrior entered Erabran's hut.

The Warrior found the old man sitting next to a fire, gazing through the hole in his hut at the stars. Holding out the green stone, the Warrior beckoned the old man to take it. Erabran looked over, and his eyes began to sparkle as he peered at the small stone. Taking the stone from the Warrior, Erabran began rolling it in his hands, and then he passed it through the flames a few times. Then Erabran held the stone in his hands above his head, and then he started to look up to the stars again. The stone began to glow, and then levitated off of the old man's hands. Suddenly the stone flashed bright blue, and then it fell to the ground. Erabran pointed to the sky, and the Warrior noticed that there was a new, bright star.

Erabran picked up the stone, which had turned bright blue, and walked over to a table. After fixing the stone to a piece of leather, Erabran tied the new headband on the Warrior's head. Erabran smiled, and the Warrior nodded and then left.

Before the Warrior retired to his hut he stood and looked at the stars for one last moment. And as he gazed, he noticed a very distinct pattern with the new star. It seemed to form an arrow, with the new star at the point, pointing toward the west. The Warrior chuckled a little and then turned in for the night.

The Warrior got up, put on his headband and sword, ate, and began his trek west. The trip was uneventful, until one night when he spotted a light in the dark woods. Approaching it slowly, the Warrior found that the only person there was an old woman. After determining that she posed no threat, the Warrior emerged from the thick black forest.

Once she noticed the Warrior, the old woman motioned for him to sit down on a nearby log. She pointed at his headband and said, "So you found one of Akrabra's stars." Before the Warrior could reply she continued on, "I bet your wondering how I know that you little stone is and Akrabra star." Again before the Warrior could put in a word, she said, "I know because I saw the new star in the sky, and that only the one with the stone would notice the celestial arrow and come out here to nowhere."

The Warrior, now dumbfounded, watched as the old woman picked up a stick and stir up the fire. A mass of sparks few up into the air, and the old woman waved her hands; mystically the sparks began to take shape into a map. Turning to face the Warrior, the old woman said, "This is a map of the area. These woods are filled with many dangers, and this map will lead you safely to the location of the next star." The woman waved her hands again, and the sparks began to move again and when they settled the old woman spoke again, "These are the ruins that hold another star. Sitting atop each of the arches is a gargoyle, charged to protect the star for all of eternity. If you are able to defeat the gargoyles you will find in the center of the ruins is a large stone box, lift the stone tablet enclosing it and inside you will find another Akrabra star."

"Before you go," the old woman said as the Warrior was about to leave, "you should know of the powers the stars contain. Each star has one or two different powers. With the star you posses, if you concentrate on your sword, you can cause the blade to flame. And if you hold out your open palm and concentrate a small force field will form directly in front of you. Also before you leave, the gargoyles cannot survive without structure. Now that you have this knowledge, you may leave."

The Warrior thanked her and was on his way. As he walked through the woods he could hear the terrible sound of the evils that the woman warned him about. Frightful screams, groans, and roars pieced the air as he walked.

As the next day dawned, the Warrior approached a clearing, and in the center were the ruins he was searching for. The Warrior slowly approached the ruins, and found it just as the old woman had said: four arches with a gargoyle atop each one. When the Warrior reached the first arch, he began to hear stone grinding on stone, and then he felt the ground shake behind him. He quickly turned around to find a snarling, red-eyed gargoyle.

The Warrior drew his sword, and the gargoyle charged. Before the gargoyle reached him, the Warrior stepped to the side, and attacked as the beast flew by, severing its ear. As the gargoyle turned around the Warrior readied himself for the next pass. The Gargoyle charged again, and the Warrior held out his open palm before him, closed his eyes, and concentrated. While leaping at the Warrior, the gargoyle hit the barrier, and fell to the ground in a daze. Quickly, the Warrior drove his sword with all of his might into the gargoyle, and after the beast drew its last breath, it crumbled in to dust.

The sound of stone grinding sounded throughout the area, and the Warrior ran toward the stone box containing the Akrabra star. Before the Warrior could push the cover tablet off, the other three gargoyles awoke. Before they all jumped to the ground, the Warrior held his sword before him and concentrated. The sword began to slowly glow, and then it started to flame. The first gargoyle took to the air, and dropped on top of the Warrior. In an attempt to frighten the beast off, the Warrior attacked it with his sword, but the gargoyle knocked the sword from his hands. The beast had the Warrior pinned beneath it, and tried to bite the Warrior, but the Warrior managed to avoid its razor sharp teeth. While wrestling with the beast, the Warrior positioned his feet under the gargoyle and pushed him off into one of the arches.

The gargoyle hit the arch hard, and fell to the ground. The arch began to crack and shake, and the other two gargoyles fell to the ground off the arches in pain. At that moment the Warrior realized what the old woman had meant about how the gargoyles cannot survive without structure: their survival depended on the arches.

Before the gargoyles came to, the Warrior retrieved his sword and re-ignited it. He then proceeded to chop at the arches. With each blow the gargoyles cringed in more pain, but the biggest gargoyle seemed to continue toward the Warrior despite all the pain it was in. The Warrior turned toward the beast, ran, and kicked the beast back. He then turned to the stone box, raised his sword, and cleaved the cover tablet in two.

The Warrior grabbed the star, clenched it in his fist, and he ran with great speed toward an arch. He then raised his sword and it passed quickly through the stone, and the arch fell. When the arch hit the ground, one of the gargoyles stone skin began to crack, and it exploded. With great speed, the Warrior chopped the other arches, and when the dust from the gargoyles cleared the Warrior collapsed in to a trembling pile from exhaustion.

A few days later, the Warrior awoke. He looked in his hand, and found that the star was still there. After carefully making his way out of the rubble, the Warrior began his journey home.
